Simpson Grierson Presents Everyday Miracles
Simpson Grierson is delighted to bring Aucklanders an exhibition of works by influential British modernist painter Sir Stanley Spencer titled ‘Everyday Miracles.’
Simpson Grierson is principal sponsor of the exhibition which opens at the Auckland Art Gallery on July 5. It’s a collection of Spencer’s religious studies, portraits and landscapes many of which demonstrate his meticulous attention to detail.
Chairman Rob Fisher says, “attention to detail is something we know all about at Simpson Grierson.”
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring ‘Everyday Miracles’ to Auckland and believe the title neatly reflects the level of service we aim to provide for our clients. Our team of legal specialists often achieves the seemingly impossible.”
“Simpson Grierson was a key force behind the recent Promina dual stock exchange listing, while the amazing work notched up in the last financial year includes legal advice to the makers of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the $690 million sale of the Woolworths chain and the purchase of UnitedNetworks’ New Zealand assets.
“Simpson Grierson regularly supplies specialist legal services to Auckland City Council and last year advised on the sale of Auckland City’s shareholding in Auckland International Airport.”
“We have enjoyed an association with Auckland Art Gallery as a principal sponsor of exhibitions since 1990.”
Spencer lived his entire life in the small town of Cookham, painting what he observed around him. Detailed landscape studies and portraiture became the launching point for grand scale biblical narratives, where the local residents were portrayed as apostles, saints and angels.
Spencer is now acknowledged as one of the great British modernist painters but his influence went largely unrecognised during his lifetime. He was knighted only in his final year. Some of the works on display formed part of a recent exhibition at London’s Tate Gallery. A special feature of the exhibition will be the Tate’s recent digital recreation of Spencer’s ‘Church-House’, a unique live-in church which Spencer planned but never realised.
