Toronto Freeways A Challenge For Harley Riders

The Canadian media interest in a group of New Zealanders riding their Harleys across America has intensified this morning, with Roger Clausen and his friends being interviewed by top rating Newstalk stations in Ontario, and by print media in Niagara Falls. A photo shoot has also been carried out at the Falls.

Mr Clausen, and his four friends, James Young & Mattie Wall, both of Auckland, Larry Robb of Wanganui, and Terry McGruer of Palmerston North, arrived in Niagara Falls before lunchtime today, after a short but dramatic 3 hour ride from Barrie, Ontario.

“The ride on Toronto's 16 lane freeways was not for the faint hearted”, said Roger Clausen.

“Riding in such traffic on a large Harley motorcycle such as the types that we are using on this trip across the American continent, is a huge experience, and one that a person without nerves of steel would not relish,” he said.

“The massive road transporters are so close you can reach out and touch them. They appear almost static in the intense traffic flows,” he said.

“Meanwhile all other traffic is continually weaving in and out across the various lanes. It was concentrated riding, tiring and draining,” he said.

The group are now sightseeing in Niagara Falls for the rest of the day, and among their activities will be a trip on the famous Lady of the Mist, a walk beneath the Falls, and generally catching up on the aura of the spectacular scenery that is surrounding them.

In the past three days the Harley riders have travelled more than 1800 kilometres, & tomorrow they head to Plattsburg in the beautiful Champlain Valley of New York State, where more media activities are scheduled.

These include interviews with major television networks NBC and CBS affiliate stations whose audiences are in the millions, reaching across the New York State, Vermont, and into Montreal and Quebec in Eastern Canada. The group’s scheduled to arrive New York Monday.
