Spike Milligan celebrations in Upper Hutt

During a business visit to Sydney recently Paul Lambert Upper Hutt City Promotion Manager visited Woy Woy near Gosford where Spike Milligan's mother lived and hr spent a lt of time.Woy is celebrating his life with a week long festival of humour and creativity.
Upper Hutt's link with the official " Spikefest ' in Woy Woy , Australia takes place this Saturday.From 11am to 2pm , visitors can "Walk Backwards for Xmas in Logan Plaza "There will be a cordoned off area where Milligan and Goon fans can walk backwards a short way and collect a certificate to prove it.
All entrants go in the draw for a range of Spike Milligan and Goons books and tapes.Milligan records and tapes will also be played to the public. Douglas Milligan of Waikanae has agreed to be the Milligan patron and join in the walk.He is unsure of any family ties with real "Spike " Members of the publis will be encouraged to make a gold coin donation to the Arthritis Foundation.
There is another Milligan Connection with singer humourist Jeremy Taylor from UK,who used to perform with Spike, does his only show in Wellington at The Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre on Tuesday 21 October 2003

A Mayoral letter from Gosford City Mayor where Woy Woy is located is expected this week by Mayor Wayne Guppy.
Paul Lambert City Promotion Manager says it is timely for National Radio to arrange to play old Goons shows every Friday night at midnight .Furthermore Tony Chad will be playing Spike Milligan items on Access Radio between 8 am and 9 am on Saturday on 783 AM.Lambert adds that he hopes the event will draw visitors from outside Upper Hutt and grow in future year
Mayor Wayne Guppy is planning to take part in the walk so he can phone Mayor Robert Bell in Gosford City and confirm " Spikefest' was launched in Upper Hutt .
