Doing Something About Youth Suicide
With YELLOW RIBBON and ST LUCY

Award-winning rock band St Lucy is asking the Auckland public to join an effort to make some money for youth suicide charity Yellow Ribbon – and become part of a CD recording at the same time.

Last year, St Lucy won three days recording at York St Studios and duplication of 500 CDs. St Lucy frontsman Mark Tupuhi takes over the story:

“We’re using the prize to help Yellow Ribbon, and we want Aucklanders to help.

“We are asking the public to download our song “Driving to Mary” from www.mp3.com.au/StLucy. Come along to York St Studios in Parnell at 7pm, Tuesday October 21, and join us singing on the track.

“The proceeds from the sale of our single will go to Yellow Ribbon. Ideally, we would like to see a partnership form between Yellow Ribbon and the National Youth Radio Network lobbyists.

“You watched the boxing match on telly – now it’s time to get off the couch,” Mark said.

Who Is “St. Lucy”?

“St Lucy is an established, hard-working part of the New Zealand music scene. Imagine 3 Elvises, 2 Neil Finns and Dave Dobbyn sellotaped together: that’s us.”

Why Yellow Ribbon?

“Because I have lost a lot of people to suicide. Because I was an “at risk” youth. Because music is generally more relevant to youth at risk than boxing. Because it’s time for Generation X to get involved. And because that boxing thing was just totally out of left field. I’ve decided to get involved. You could too, just by spreading the word.”
