HARRY POTTER SERIES - RECORD SALES ANNOUNCEMENT
J K Rowling's Harry Potter books have entered into the history books yet again with a record breaking, unprecedented number of worldwide sales of a quarter of a billion (250,000,000) copies worldwide.
This staggering achievement is the sum of 60 languages sold in over 200 countries around the world, including Gujarati, Latin, Faroese, Macedonian and Ancient Greek. Harry Potter has become a household name since the first book "Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone" in the proposed seven book series was published in 1997.
Celebrating the new record, Christopher Little, J K Rowling's agent said:
"We are delighted that J K Rowling's books continue to win new fans internationally and look forward to introducing Harry Potter to yet more readers in the furthest parts of the globe. J K Rowling's books have paved the way for a new generation of exciting children's writers, causing a revolution in children's enthusiasm for reading"
The fifth book "Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix" was published in English speaking countries in June 2003 and translations continue to follow.
J K Rowling has begun work on the sixth book about the boy wizard but as yet no date is fixed for its release.
