Auckland Radio Audience Measurement Survey T2/2003

Auckland Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey T2/2003

The second round of the Auckland 2003 Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Surveys conducted by Research International was released today at noon.

Department of Statistics 2001 Census data indicates that there are approximately 910,100 people aged over 10 years in the Auckland survey area used for the Radio Audience Measurement Survey. Of these 910,100 people, 88.8% of them listen to a commercial radio station at some time during the week.

The survey, conducted over 6 weeks and sampling 3072 people aged 10 years and over has found that Newstalk ZB continues to have the most listeners each week, with 200,900 different people tuning in each week. Classic Hits 97.4FM moves up to second place with 166,600 different listeners each week, followed by MaiFM88.6 with 163,400 listeners. 91.8 More FM moves to fourth place with 143,100 listeners each week and Today’s Hit Music ZM91.0 moves to fifth place with 141,700 different listeners each week.

The commercial radio station with the highest market share in Auckland remains Newstalk ZB with a 13.1% share of the market. Classic Hits 97.4FM retains second placing with a 10.2% share of commercial radio listening in Auckland, followed closely by Mai FM88.6 at third place with a 10.1% share. Today’s Hit Music ZM91.0 retains fourth placing in the market with a 6.1% share, and 91.8 More FM moves up to fifth in the market with a 5.9% share.

Breakfast results show Newstalk ZB continuing to hold the highest share, with 19.9% of the commercial radio breakfast market, followed by Classic Hits 97.4FM with a 9.0% share. Mai FM88.6 takes third placing this round with a 7.8% share of the breakfast market. Today’s Hit Music ZM 91.0 moves to fourth placing this round with a 7.0% share, and 91.8 More FM moves to fifth place with a 6.5% share of commercial breakfast listening.

The margin of error on these results is +/- 1.8%
