Market gardener scoops huge Sweepstakes win
Pukekohe market gardener Mohan Hari is reeling from the news he's won the top prize in the latest Reader's Digest Sweepstakes - a whopping $350,000.
"I just can't believe it. You read about this happening to other people, but I never thought I'd be a winner," said Mr Hari.
And there's more cause for celebration for the 54-year-old father of four. Reader's Digest has awarded him a further $50,000 for returning his Sweepstakes entry quickly.
"This is simply fantastic. I never thought I'd win but Reader's Digest came through for me," said Mr Hari.
Paying off the mortgage and helping the business are top of Mr Hari's priority list for his windfall, but a family holiday is also on the cards.
The market gardener says this will have to wait, though, until the onion export season is over!
In the meantime, Mr Hari and his wife Urmila will make a quick trip to Sydney this week to claim their prize, and return in time to celebrate two of their daughters' birthdays in style.
Another New Zealand winner also on his way to Sydney this week is William Bradley of Geraldine, South Canterbury, who picked up a prize of $10,000.
Reader's Digest has given away
more than $1 million in cash and prizes in this latest 92nd
Sweepstakes. To date, it has awarded $21 million in prizes
to more than 214 thousand winners in New Zealand and
Australia.
