Nissan Selects Top Oceania Technician
Nissan Motor Company held its bi-annual competition to select the top Nissan technician in Oceania this week. The competition was held on the Gold Coast of Australia. Competitors from a number of Oceania countries competed, with the winner earning the right to participate in the World Finals in Tokyo Japan later this year.
Every two years Nissan Motor Company hosts a world-wide competition for Nissan technicians identifying the “best of the best” in a variety of categories. These competitions are competed for, first at the National level, followed by a Regional (Oceania for us) level competition and then the World Finals. This competition is the Nissan International Service Technical Contest, commonly referred to as NISTEC.
The winner of the Oceania regional competition is Brendon Taylor of Max Pennington’s Autocity in New Plymouth. Our sincere congratulations go to Brendon and Max who accompanied him to the competition in Australia.
The competition was fiercely contested between Australia and New Zealand with New Zealand coming out on top by one point. Of the maximum 78 points available, Brendon scored 75 and the Australian competitor scored 74. The next closest contestant scored 67 points.
In years past, the top two technicians from the Oceania contest advanced to the World Finals. This year, as only the winner progresses there was a much higher level of pressure for all contestants involved. In the World Cup of Nissan technical contests, New Zealand has beaten Australia!
Nissan New Zealand Customer Services Manager, Mike Perez says this win is a joint effort on the part of Brendon, his dealership and Nissan New Zealand’s Technical Training Manager, Mr John Reynolds who dedicated a great deal of personal time and effort in ensuring Brendon was adequately prepared for the challenge of competing internationally. As the results reflect, their combined efforts have paid off.
The next stop for Brendon is Tokyo in November where we are confident he will prove once again that New Zealand has the best and brightest Nissan technical talent in the world!
