Acclaimed Kiwi short films début at Telecom 36 Auckland International Film Festival 2004

Five New Zealand short films selected to screen at prestigious overseas film festivals will make their New Zealand première in the Telecom 36 Auckland International Film Festival 2004 at Auckland’s Academy Cinema on Saturday 10th and Monday 12th July.

Screening as part of the Homegrown: Works on Film , a collaboration between the Moving Image Centre and the New Zealand International Film Festivals, each of the five films has received funding through the Short Film Fund of the New Zealand Film Commission.

Closer, a story of a deaf teenage boy struggling with the loss of his older sister, was part of the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival 2004

Tiga e le lloa / Hidden Pain , from Samoan filmmaker Popo Lilo, screened in January this year at the Sundance Film Festival in the United States

Fleeting Beauty , directed by Virginia Pitts, will screen at this year’s Montreal World Film Festival in August and the Valladolid International Film Festival in October

My Father’s Shoes has been accepted for this year’s Melbourne International Film Festival and Montreal World Film Festival.

Boy, directed by Welby Ings, will also screen at the Montreal World Film Festival

The MIC Short Film Programmes - Homegrown offer a dynamic platform for up-and-coming and established filmmakers to present their work at the highest level of film festival exhibition in this country. Directors of all five films are available for comment/interviews.
