The Wellington Cathedral of St Paul is pleased to present its second lunchtime recital series for 2004. This series is without doubt one of the most varied series Wellington has seen for many years, including flute and marimba duets, Gamelan, fortepiano, pipe-band and organ, and jazz trio amongst others.

The concerts run every Friday at 12.45 pm at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul (cnr Hill and Molesworth Streets). Entry is by donation.

The opening recital on 3rd September is presented by NZSO flutist Kirstin Eade and NZSO percussionist Jeremy Fitzsimons, and features a programme of international flavours in music for flute and marimba by Gareth Farr, Piazzolla and Ibert.

The series is organised by the cathedral’s Sub Organist, Richard Apperley. He says “I am very excited to present this concert series. Past series have focussed strongly on organ recitals, but my goal in this series was to present an eclectic mix of musicians in this very exciting concert venue.”

The series features some of New Zealand’s finest musicians, including Victoria University of Wellington’s Keyboard Specialist Douglas Mews (fortepiano), Wellington based gamelan ensemble Gamelan Padhang Moncar and NZSO trombonist Peter Maunder in the Talisker Trio.

The Cathedral’s newly appointed Director of Music Michael Fulcher will give a recital on the 26th of November. Michael will be leaving his Organist position at St George’s Anglican Cathedral, Paris, to being work in Wellington in October 2004.
