Lucire salutes Wellington designers in Thursday function; announces next issue on-sale date

Lucire, New Zealand’s most widely read fashion title, will hold a small function saluting Wellington’s designers after their return from Air New Zealand Fashion Week on October 28 at 6 p.m. at the Good Luck Bar, 126 Cuba Street, and celebrating the beginning of its eighth year of publication.

‘Wellington is our home town,’ said publisher Jack Yan. ‘It is where Lucire started on October 21, 1997 as a web magazine, and it is where the decision to launch a print version was made. It is where we celebrate the creativity of this city.’

Lucire had a star-studded launch in Auckland on October 4 MCed by Miss World New Zealand Amber Peebles and attended by celebrities including Erika Takacs and Hilary Timmins.

Mr Yan said the Wellington function would be attended by numerous local celebrities and expects the guest list to feature Kelly Swanson-Roe, DJ Jesse Mulligan and members of the fashion community.

The function is the brainchild of Laura Ming-Wong of Sweetchilli, who serves as the magazine’s creative director.

Lucire also announced that its next edition, a December–January number, will hit newsstands on November 29 and will feature a cover shot on Coney Island in New York.

‘After chatting with our distributor, we are bringing our release dates in line with other titles,’ said Mr Yan.

‘October 4 was selected as our launch date by a representative of Air New Zealand Fashion Week in January, both to avoid a clash with the event and to give New Zealand a month’s worth of fashion,’ he continued.

‘We are providing that full month, by kicking "Frocktober" off on the first Monday with a fashion event, and concluding it with another.’

Inside the December issue is an extensive report on Air New Zealand Fashion Week by Alice Goulter, Clare Marshall and Russell McConnell, and photographers Janet Liu and Amanda Dorcil. A fourth correspondent, whose identity remains under wraps, writes a behind-the-scenes exclusive.

Between 1997 and 2004, Lucire was the world’s leading online-only fashion magazine, a title it gave up when it launched a print counterpart. It is the United Nations Environment Programme’s first fashion industry partner and this year an official media partner of San Francisco Fashion Week and Stockholm FashionDays. It co-sponsors the Indashio catwalk show at Los Angeles Fashion Week the same night as the function, with some proceeds to charity.

Lucire’s brand extension marks the first time any online fashion magazine has spawned a print edition.

Supporters for the evening include Heineken, Red Bull, Bobbi Brown, Epic and Sweetchilli.
