Lotto Game Changes Are A Bonus For Winner
LOTTO GAME CHANGES ARE A BONUS FOR PALMERSTON NORTH SECOND DIVISION WINNER
A regular Lotto player was "blown away" after discovering their Second Division win from last Saturday's draw netted them more than $40,000.
"This week's huge Second Division prize of $40,827 is the largest since changes were made to Lotto in August," said the Chief Executive of New Zealand Lotteries Commission, Trevor Hall.
Changes were made to Lotto as a result of customer feedback. They included removing the second bonus ball and Guaranteed Millionaire, introducing the Winning Wheel and changing the prize structure. On average Second Division winners now win almost five times more than under the previous prize structure, an increase from $4,000 to $20,000.
"For a winner to take almost double that is great" said Mr Hall. "In fact the average Second Division prize winnings for Palmerston North since the changes are almost $26,000."
Staff at Melody's New World, who sold the winning ticket, said the winner came in on Sunday aware that they had a second division win and were "very excited" to discover it was worth $40,827.
The luckiest eleven cities for Second Division wins are Auckland, Christchurch, Gisborne, Hamilton, Lower Hutt, Napier, Palmerston North, Porirua, Rotorua, Wellington and Whangarei.
