Charity event benefits work of AngelCare

A fundraiser party will be held for the benefit of AngelCare, the dance community safety service provider, on Saturday the 11th of December at Auckland’s Cube Bar.

Sponsored by local promoters N2O and hard dance radio station UPFM, the event is designed to thank AngelCare’s volunteers who are regularly on-hand at dance party events to save lives.

Cube Bar owner Shiney said that the bar had accepted AngelCare's offer to supply 'Angels' onsite every Friday and Saturday night.

“These guys do a fantastic job in keeping people safe in 'Club Land' and we are more than happy to support them wherever possible," he said.

The event promises to be the biggest hard dance charity event of the year showcasing some of the best talent across the industry spectrum.

“The Nitro series started in 2002 as a way of putting something back into the dance scene. We looked for ways of using money raised to benefit the scene in some way,” said event organiser Justin Sane.

“There’s usually a lot more sense of companionship at dance parties, people tend to leave their egos at the door and forget their social differences and just enjoy the music. This might also explain why there's less violence at dance parties compared to drinking hot-spots such as the Viaduct,” Mr Sane said.

AngelCare clinical director, psychologist Dr Steve Miller agreed that there was increased social responsibility at dance events.

“There is a care and concern in the dance community which is a reflective trademark of today’s younger generation. Young folks engage us with questions and concerns about their mates, and even stay with them when they’re having a bad experience,” Dr Miller said.

AngelCare founder Matt Bowden said: “It is a mark of evolution when an organism develops means to protect and heal itself, which is what is happening in this community.”

The DJ lineup includes: Hardstyle Terror Crew, Justin Sane, Taz, Kyle Donegan, Chelfyn, Seb DaRush, Matt Camp, Javed Haider, Les Filterbrats, Romantech. Tickets are $10 per person.
