Calling all Joneses!

The producers of a new television programme are looking for Cantabrians (and some from outside the region) called Jones.

The innovative programme is due to go to air on CTV, one of the country's most successful regional television stations in New Zealand.

CTV Station Manager, Liz Whiteford, says the idea is to meet as many people called Jones as possible and bring them to our screens.

"Regional television is all about seeing local people telling their stories. This is a different and interesting way of doing that," she says.

Former TVNZ news presenter and current CTV front person, Ali Jones will present "Keeping up with the Joneses", fitting in around CTV's "News Line" and "Southern Week" programmes which she also produces and fronts.

"I am really excited about this project," she says. "After years of being told I have such a common name, I am proud CTV is spawning a television series!"

Jones says it's amazing how many people know someone called Jones.

"I've mentioned it to a few friends and places like the local supermarket and pre-school, and every time, reactions are so positive. Everyone knows a Jones it seems. One person suggested Bridget Jones and seemed disappointed when I explained Bridget isn't real," she says.

"If your name is (or was) Jones and you have a special talent, unusual hobbies, interesting experiences or perhaps you just think you're a unique Jones in a world of millions, contact us now!"
