UK Music Leaders Upskill Local Talent

UK Music Leaders Upskill Local Talent

The New Zealand music industry will have the opportunity to learn from
some of the United Kingdom's most influential music professionals at a
free seminar being held in Auckland and Wellington next month (March).

Resonate 05 – presented by the British Council New Zealand, Auckland
youth music station Mai FM 88.6 and the New Zealand Music Industry
Commission – will be held at the Auckland Art Gallery – Toi o Tamaki
Auditorium from March 3 to 5.

A plenary session ('The Great Music Media Scrum') will be held at the
NZ Film Archive Mediaplex in Wellington on March 2 between 12 noon and
4pm.

UK guests include the editor of leading music magazine NME, Conor
McNicholas; Darling Department publicist Rachel Hendry; V2 Records'
Polly Birkbeck; and James Roberts – the A & R editor from Music Week.

Topics over the four days include the rise of the independent label; how to get your band noticed in the UK; what you have to do as an international artist to make the pages of NME; current trends in the UK market; the future of music press; what effect digital will really have on the physical side of the business; and whether there is a need for bands to have their own publicists.

British Council New Zealand arts manager Jodie Molloy says the forum is a unique opportunity for anyone involved in the business of music to learn from some of the UK's best creative talent. Sessions are no-cost events that are free to the public.

More information about Resonate 05 is available on the website – http://www.resonate.org.nz/ – or by e-mailing resonate05@ihug.co.nz.
