Subject: New Stars on the horizon out West

The Auckland Stars are set to bring winning basketball to Trusts Stadium in Waitakere City when the New Zealand NBL season tips-off on Friday evening March 18.

This year the Stars will be vying for NBL championship number nine. They have already won more titles than any other club in the ten team league and will be hoping the change to a new stadium will continue their good fortune.

NZ Breakers Dillon Boucher and Lindsay Tait have returned for another season, while award winning Breaker, Aaron Olson is taking a short break in Canada and will join the Auckland Stars upon his return in April.

Last year the Stars appeared to sneak up on everyone in the league with comfortable road victories in the semi’s, and finals paving their way to championship success.

That taste for success remains as the rest of their team roster also includes American import and team captain Casey Frank, Mike Homik, Reece Cassidy, Stan Bidois, Dylan Perfect-Tait, Josh Clark, Johnathan Fesolai, Reece Beardsall, William Green, and Glen Joe who has moved from the Waikato Titans.

Probably the Auckland Stars best kept secret is American Kareem Johnson who fills the center position and is formerly of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. His size and power should compliment an already dynamic Stars line-up.

Head coach Kenny Stone is happy with the team’s progress to date and is looking forward to the start of the NBL season.
