Auckland Netball facilities proceed

Construction of Auckland Netball's new facilities adjoining Ngahue Reserve, Mt Wellington, is set to begin following the signing of a construction contract.

Work on the new pavilion, which will house Auckland Netball's administrative facilities as well as three indoor courts, is due to start on 21 March. Auckland City has committed $6.9 million toward the $12 million project, in addition to the costs associated with creating the platform for the netball courts.

"Auckland Netball Centre is very excited to have taken the next step in building our new facilities at Ngahue Reserve with preparations for building already underway," says Liz Leamy, general manager of the Auckland Netball Centre.

"We have worked in partnership with the council throughout the development of our new facilities, and we are grateful for the support it has given us. We look forward to completing the building and courts ready to start the 2006 season in our new home."

Councillor Penny Sefuiva, chairperson of Auckland City's Arts, Culture and Recreation committee, says "Auckland City is proud to be involved with Auckland Netball on this venture and see it as a marvellous step forward that the contract has been signed.

"Mt Wellington is a rapidly growing area that will benefit from the addition of the netball facility in its midst. We look forward to celebrating the opening of what will a marvellous asset to Auckland."

Auckland Netball will remain at their existing Windmill Road courts until the 2006 netball season.
