Christchurch Dancers Success In Auckland

Success for Christchurch dancers at the Auckland Claymore Association Highland Dancing competition held at the weekend.

Nadia Edwards 17, Scotia School of Dance, won most points in the Premier section. This Burnside High student is off to the Australasian Championships in Sydney this weekend, hoping to improve on her fourth overall placing last year;

George Jackson 15, Heather School of Dance, was runner up in the Premier section. A member of well known family band "Fiddlesticks", George and brother Mackenzie (absent from photo who also performed with distinction in this strong section) are also heading across the ditch with their parents to start a year long performance contract with the Queensland Arts Council;

Ruby Allsop 6, Myramac Studio, gained three third placings in the primary section, this Elmwood Primary School pupil's second ever competition.

According to president Mary-Jo Tohill, as junior members of the Highland Dancing Association of Canterbury (Inc), they are great ambassadors for Scottish Official Board Highland Dancing in the South Island.

"These dancers are amongst the first we have sent away from Christchurch, and we are proud of the way they have conducted themselves, not just as individuals but as a group. They make all the effort of teaching and fundraising worthwhile".
