The Dictionary of New Zealand Biography gives fascinating insights in to the history of New Zealand through the lives of its people and now there are many more people to see on the website http://www.dnzb.govt.nz.

One hundred and thirty new images have been added to the site, received from friends or family of the biography subjects through the DNZB’s ‘Contribute an Image’ project.

Included are some lovely candid shots of people, such as pioneering female climber Jane Thomson at the top of a mountain, Hokitika draper Agnes Addison outside her shop, sailor Peter Mander at the helm of his yacht and Dalmatian fisherman Mariano Vella outside his house at Paremata, near Wellington.

In the wake of Michael Campbell’s triumph at the US Open, the updated DNZB also features a news item and images of his sporting forebears, other well-known Mâori golfers.

The website comprises the entire five-volume series of the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography and its Mâori language companion series Ngâ Tângata Taumata Rau. Over 3000 biographies with more than 2000 illustrations bring to life the stories of remarkable New Zealanders over the centuries.
