The enjoyable way to collect art

Mazda Artworks At The Hilton: The enjoyable way to collect art

Monday 22nd – Saturday 27th August, the Hilton Auckland
www.mazdaartworks.co.nz

Make owning a piece of art a reality and visit Mazda Artworks at the Hilton, back for the fourth year in a row.

This popular charity art exhibition and sale is the place to buy art. The affordable prices and sheer volume and variety on offer means there is something for everyone, from the first time art buyer to the seasoned collector.
Choose from over 700 exciting and original works of art priced from as little as $500 and ranging to $5,000 and above. There will also be a select number of works priced up to $100,000.

The range of art includes paintings, sculpture, ceramics and photography. You can even talk to artists at work or watch body painters and tattooists in action. If emerging talent is your thing, this could be your chance to discover the next big thing at the Mazda Emerging Artist Exhibition. 146 original pieces by Fine Art students from throughout New Zealand will be on display and available to purchase at very affordable prices.

Mazda Artworks is not just about art, it is about building a better future for young New Zealanders. The event, organised by the Rotary Club of Ellerslie Sunrise, does this through its charitable partners: Variety – the Children’s Charity, The Spirit of Adventure Trust, The Liggins Institute, The Malaghan Institute and the Dymocks Literary Foundation.

Chairman Matthew Adams said that the annual event is now firmly entrenched as a highlight of New Zealand’s art and social calendars and has fast become one of Auckland’s most successful fundraising events donating $ 437,000 in the three years it has been running.

“Mazda Artworks provides a platform for established artists to exhibit their latest work and through the inclusion of the Mazda Emerging Artist Award it is also a valuable opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their talent and in many cases secure the first sale of their work,” said Mr Adams.

“For the public the week long event is a chance to view and purchase great New Zealand art at one venue and know that by making a purchase they are contributing to the future of young New Zealanders through the tireless work of our charitable partners.”

The exhibition is open daily from 10am – 4pm, from Monday 22 August until Saturday 27 August. Admission is $10 and includes an extensive catalogue.

Art on the Street
Street or Urban Art has evolved from graffiti and is a reflection of a range of styles and concepts derived from the hip-hop generation's expression of boredom touched with creativity.
Today it has travelled a long way from its roots but it retains the core style that expresses the culture of its time.
At ARTWORKS you will see examples of Street or Urban Art being created and talk with those who have helped transform a socially unacceptable practice into a form of communication and expression.
