Kate Camp Poetry Event

Expect more than the usual poetry reading when Wellington poet Kate Camp celebrates the release of her third collection of poetry, Beauty Sleep. Joining Camp for this New Zealand Book Council event will be Hinemoana Baker, Pinky Agnew, and chair Kim Hill.

Along with readings from Beauty Sleep, the audience will be treated to performances by local singer and writer Hinemoana Baker. Comedian Pinky Agnew and avid reader Kim Hill will join Camp in conversation about her new collection.

Widely published in magazines such as Landfall, the Listener, North and South and Sport, Kate Camp was awarded the NZSA Jessie Mackay award for Best First Book of Poetry at the 1999 Montana New Zealand Book Awards for Unfamiliar Legends of the Stars.

Her second collection of poetry, Realia, was published in 2001 and she is also the author of an essay, On Kissing, published as part of the Four Winds Press Montana essay series. Camp presents a monthly segment, ‘Kate’s Klassics’, for National Radio’s Saturday Morning show. She has just been short-listed for the 2006 Prize in Modern Letters, the world’s largest literary prize for new writers worth $65,000.
