Bible Still Top Book for NZers

More than 70,000 new Bibles from Bible Society found their way into New Zealand homes and churches for the year ended October 31, 2005.

Of these, a third were in the Contemporary English Version (CEV) of the Bible, which is a more recent translation. Some of the more established versions were less popular than in previous years.

In addition more than 40,000 copies of the New Testament were distributed over the same period. Again, the CEV was the most popular version, totalling 71% of the total number distributed.

“Although Bible Society distributes the largest number of Bibles in New Zealand, we are only one of a number of such agencies so the overall total of Bibles distributed in this country is even greater,” said Allan Davidson, Bible Society’s distribution manager.

“Clearly, the Bible remains New Zealand’s most popular book,” he added.
