The Rock’s Annual
Wife-Carrying Competition

Valentine’s Day – The Rock way
The Annual
Wife-Carrying competition took place this morning at Mission
Bay in Auckland.
As the tide came in, contestants carried their wives in and out of the water, through an obstacle course designed by The Rock’s Morning Rumble team. It was a close race with previous year’s winners Rob and Marg Hawthorne putting up a great fight. However it was Auckland couple, Alistair and Julia Haywood who took out the grand prize – Julia’s weight in beer!

"I was tired and my legs were burning but it was worth it!" says Alistair Haywood
Thanks to Doully standing on the
scales, Julia’s weight was bumped up from a slim 55kg’s to a
more robust 80 kg’s - because, at the end of the day, it’s
all for the love
(of beer).
The Haywood’s were followed closely by celebrity couple, Hamish Mackay and his “stunt” wife, Peggy Bourne.
Wives were carried in a variety of ways, from the traditional fireman’s hold to a classic piggyback.
