Record Entries For 2006 New Zealand Landscape Awards

The 2006 New Zealand Landscape Awards have attracted a record number of entries, with 56 landscapes – from Fiji to Gore – competing for the premier awards.

The New Zealand Landscape Awards are held every two years by the Landscape Industries Association of New Zealand (LIANZ).

LIANZ is a professional organisation that represents 150 of New Zealand’s leading landscape design, construction and garden care businesses and assesses members’ work for quality standards.

The Landscape of Distinction awards recognise excellence in five categories: residential, commercial, garden management, use of native plants and student projects, with separate awards for projects under $40,000 and over $40,000.

“We are delighted to have a record number of entries this year, with a diverse range of gardens and geographic locations. There are entries from Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Wellington, Canterbury, Dunedin, Queenstown and Fiji,” says LIANZ awards convenor Elle Anderson.

The judges – Titoki garden founder and well-known horticultural journalist Gordon Collier, landscape architect Robin Shafer and Unitec lecturer Katrina Simon – are now touring the regions to individually assess each landscape.

Judging will be completed by the end of May and the winners of the 2006 New Zealand Landscape Awards will be announced at an awards gala at the LIANZ annual conference in Tauranga (September 14-16).
