Housewife with Heart Crosses World to Give to Houston’s Poor
Film Premiere Tuesday, June 6 – Westchase Theater – Houston, Texas
Opens Friday, June 9 at Cinemark Theaters Throughout Houston Area
HOUSTON – MAY 30, 2006 –Lisa Abbott, a housewife, mother and first-time film producer, departed from New Zealand today on a journey to give hope to Houston's less fortunate—at the movies.
The mother of four will make history when her film, 'Meet Me In Miami' has its red carpet film premiere in Houston on Tuesday, June 6. The way Abbott is releasing 'Meet Me In Miami' is believed to be a new innovative model of film distribution that is designed to impact a city through a momentum of giving.
Abbott, along with the film's director, Eric Hannah, and some of America's leading corporations have joined forces to give over two million dollars worth of products to Houston's less fortunate population in a star-studded night of "giving hope at the movies."
Free eye tests and eye glasses, free hearing tests and hearing aids, children's soft toys and numerous food products, will be gifted to the less fortunate from off the red carpet. The housewife with a heart to lift up the nation of America is "delighted" to release her first film in this way by giving the "gift of entertainment" at the special premiere night event.
'Meet Me In Miami' is a sweet, lighthearted film about never giving up on a dream. It stars two of Latin America's biggest heartthrobs in Eduardo Verastegui and Carlos Ponce. Verastegui will join Abbott, Hannah and other Hollywood stars to begin a 40 cities US tour of giving for 'Meet Me In Miami's' theatrical release. Houston kick starts the national tour.
After the Tuesday, June 6 premiere event, the city of Houston will be invited to Abbott's film to participate in filling the city's food banks and continue the spirit of giving at the movies for Houston's less fortunate. As little as a donation of one non-perishable food item, (or a pair of unwanted eyeglasses or a recyclable hearing aid) will grant members of the public free access to 'Meet Me In Miami,' up until Friday, 9 June, 6pm.
The housewife with heart saw Houston as an important city to begin the historical 40 US city tour of the film as "it is an international American city and it gave so generously to its neighboring State, New Orleans during the Hurricane Katrina tragedy," said Abbott.
"It feels right to begin this series of special movie events in Houston. I am honored to be a part of such amazing generosity at the movies and partner with some of America's leading corporations. To give hope from New Zealand to the less fortunate of Houston through a film is a privilege. Houston is a great city,” said Abbott.
Abbott will be arriving from New Zealand with two of her children, daughters Brooke (13) and Olivia (10) to give as a family to Houston's less fortunate families. The family arrive at Houston airport at 10.14pm, Tuesday, June 30.
