NZ/Israeli Documentary to Compete in
Italy
New Zealand Producer, Dan Shanan’s documentary film A Stage of Mind, has been chosen to compete at DOCFEST - FESTIVAL DI PALAZZO VENEZIA in Italy.
Shanan, who was born in Haifa but now lives in Auckland, collaborated with Israeli Director Niv Cohen on this poignant story about two elderly Israeli stage actors, as they come to terms with growing old.
Shanan said today, "I am very excited! I knew this story would transcend borders and languages. Having the film selected to compete for top honours confirms this."
A Stage of Mind had its world premiere in New Zealand at the inaugural DOCNZ International Documentary Film Festival last September, followed by an Israeli premiere at the Haifa International Film Festival where it captured the attention of local audiences.
DOCFEST will be held in Rome in September. More than 400 films were submitted and the film will compete with four others for the Theatre Award. Shanan will not be able to attend the film's premiere in Italy as he helms the 2nd DOCNZ, which also starts in September this year.
