Electronics Giant Sharp Corporation Sponsorship with the New Zealand Racing Board

In an announcement today New Zealand Racing Board acting Chief Executive David Walsh and Sharp Corporation of New Zealand Chief Executive Jan Nicol expressed their joint delight in the signing of a new sponsorship agreement that sees the giant electronics manufacturer Sharp as a major new racing industry sponsor and the primary provider of televisions, document solutions (photocopiers) and associated electronics technology to the NZ Racing Board.

The partnership was established last year with Sharp providing entertainment technology packages for the NZ Still Destination Summer Holiday Racing series. This was a leap of faith for Sharp who had little involvement with the racing industry or the Board prior to this series.

“Sharp saw an opportunity to become more involved with New Zealand racing through the supply of their LCD TV panels and document solutions to the NZ Racing Board. This in turn has become a procurement/sponsorship arrangement whereby Sharp will provide sponsorship for a number of industry properties.

We see this arrangement with Sharp as a template for the NZ Racing Board dealing with other large organisations in the areas of procurement and sponsorship in the future,” says Mr Walsh.

Ms Nicol indicated that this was the beginning of Sharp’s involvement in the racing industry.

“Sharp is committed to providing leading edge technologies and solutions to New Zealand’s consumer and corporate markets. We are pleased to be involved with the NZ Racing Board and the racing industry as they gain traction in their efforts to revitalise the industry.”

Sharp products have already begun to filter through TAB agencies while a number of racing clubs have already taken advantage of the NZ Racing Board - Sharp sponsorship to update their on-course televisions.
