The Crowd Goes Wild - Weekdays at 7pm on Prime

PRIME confirmed today that it will launch a new evening sports news magazine programme, The Crowd Goes Wild. The locally made, half-hour show, premiering Monday 26 June 2006, will screen weekdays at 7pm.

Hosted by a couple of Kiwi lads, Andrew Mulligan and Mark Richardson, along with occasional guests, The Crowd Goes Wild will offer a relaxed look at the day’s sporting news.

Travis Dunbar, SKY’s Director of Programming - Entertainment, says, ”The Crowd Goes Wild will provide a light hearted and often irreverent take on the latest sporting events. This is another step towards getting more local content on the channel and we believe it offers an upbeat alternative for those who are not interested in soaps or current affairs shows.”

Mark "Rigor" Richardson is a former New Zealand Cricketer, and represented New Zealand in 38 Tests from 2000 to 2004. He began his career as a left-arm spinner, and when his bowling ability left him, he refashioned himself into a batsman. Richardson is also noted for his slow running and testicle-damaging beige Lycra sprint suit; he developed a tradition to challenge the slowest runner of the opposing side to a running race at the conclusion of each tour. Mark Richardson is a familiar face on SKY’s cricket commentary team. He most recently made headlines with the spoof interview with New Zealand cricket captain, Stephen Fleming.

Andrew Mulligan is a born and bred Wellingtonian which means once upon a time he owned a pair of grey zip-up shoes and aspired to be a civil servant. However hanging out with his Dad in the Radio Sport office and the NZBC, he developed a love for sport and broadcasting. Even so, a five year University career in Dunedin studying commerce got in the way. He still managed to get into TV by becoming the founding presenter of COW TV which took a light hearted look at student life. Following this, Andrew worked for several radio networks, on air and off air, and has produced, presented and reported sport for the last few years. Andrew does not look good in beige and has been quicker than Mark to realise this.
