Gymnastics Judge Honoured

Gymnastics Judge Honoured

New Zealand Gymnastics staff member Nicky Donaldson has been given a huge honour with recognition by the Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG) as the best “FIG Judge 2001-2004”

The award is a first for a New Zealander at this level and will see Donaldson flown to Geneva for the next FIG congress to be held late next month.

"I am extremely proud and honoured to receive the award and to know that it is a first for a kiwi is a double honour,” said Donaldson.

"It is so good as an official to receive this recognition as it is a tribute to
all those who volunteer to participate in sports like aerobics."

Donaldson is one of New Zealand’s leading personalities and judges in the sport with a huge amount of enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport.

"I am thrilled that aerobics also receives its due recognition as we have been
world leaders in the sport without real recognition."

Donaldson is not just an International Brevet Judge she also is a National High
Performance Coach in New Zealand and leading club aerobics administrator.

The recognition for Donaldson who is also the NZG coaching resource manager has delighted NZG CEO Jack Ralston

"All of us at New Zealand Gymnastics are thrilled for Nicky to receive this
award and it is timely as the gymsports enter a new era, brand and leadership. We have seen dramatic change in the sport over the past year and it all comes together this month with our 50th anniversary
celebration, a new look branding of the gymsports we represent and the biggest
ever national championships. Nicky's award will be celebrated by all."

The national gymnastics champs get underway 27-30 September in Christchurch with close to 700 competitors taking part in what is also the 50th anniversary celebration of New Zealand Gymnastics.
