St Matthew-in-the-City presents U2charist

St Matthew-in-the-City presents U2charist

Fans of U2 music are invited to gather at St Matthew-in-the-City on Friday 17 November at 8pm to be part of New Zealand’s first U2charist.

Popular in the United States, a U2charist is an interfaith friendly rock concert that uses U2’s biblically rich lyrics and social justice messages to bring people together in a context of worship. While U2 has always been a Christian band, their upcoming sold-out concerts illustrate that their spiritual messages transcend a religious fan base.

The event, organised by St-Matthew-in-the-City in conjunction with Oxfam, will feature U2 music played live by local Auckland band The Believers. Lead singer from popular Kiwi band Elemeno P, Dave Gibson, will speak on the issue of poverty.

Admission is free, but attendees will have an opportunity to donate to Oxfam’s Make Poverty History campaign.

Make Poverty History brings together a wide cross-section of organisations, faith groups, trade unions and celebrities who are united by a common belief that there is currently an unprecedented opportunity for global change.
