New book for Kiwi art lovers
Experienced and novice art collectors alike will relish a new art book showcasing works by sixty of the most popular artists currently working in New Zealand.
New Zealand’s Favourite Artists, due for release this month, is an essential guide for those who are just starting out to buy local artwork, and also as an up-to-date reference for experienced art collectors.
“The artists I have featured have been producing works which are clearly appealing to a great number of Kiwi art buyers,” says New Zealand’s Favourite Artists editor, Denis Robinson.
“They range from young talent that has just burst onto the scene, through to well-known names, and even a few true legends of New Zealand painting,” he says.
Among them are no fewer than three artists who were finalists in the Adam Portraiture Awards 2006, including its winner, Freeman White.
The book includes a snapshot of art-related biographical details for the artists, making it possible to get some insight into how their talents have developed, with many having received awards and other recognition throughout their journeys.
“We have not attempted to or critique their works because the book is really a stimulus to encourage people to collect New Zealand Art,” says Mr Robinson.
Denis Robinson, who has spent most of his career in the New Zealand art and design world including managing several Auckland Galleries, was commissioned by Saint Publishing to research, compile, edit and design to book.
“The collection I have profiled in the book covers a wide spectrum of concepts and techniques and clearly shows how Maori and Pacific Island influences have contributed to our unique New Zealand art style.”
The book is intended as a follow-up to Elizabeth Caughey‘s successful book Art New Zealand Today (also by Saint Publishing) and for this reason, artists who were included in the previous book have not been considered for this publication.

from late October and retails for $49.99.
