What’s your bush yarn?

The bush is a special part of New Zealanders’ lives, and few Kiwis do not return from a time away in the bush without a story or two.

Te Ara, the Encyclopedia of New Zealand, is on the hunt for some of these yarns and is inviting New Zealanders to contribute their best ones.

They may be about perilous adventures in the hills, bush men (and women) you once boiled a billy with under the stars, encounters with birds and animals, or just what the bush means to you.

The best of these yarns will be published online in the next theme of Te Ara, the Encyclopedia of New Zealand ( http://www.TeAra.govt.nz).

That theme is called, ‘The Bush’ and deals with the landscape of New Zealand, its indigenous flora and fauna, and people’s responses to these.

Previous themes which have also included New Zealanders’ stories have dealt with the peoples of New Zealand and ‘Earth, sea and Sky’.

Stories should be no more than 500 words; and it would be helpful, although not essential, to include a photograph.

Te Ara would like to receive all stories by 15 January, 2007.
