Nelly Says It Right
Nelly Furtado clinches her third #1 appearance as Say It Right gains four places to top this week’s Official New Zealand Singles Chart.
The 29-year-old Portuguese-Canadian from Victoria, British Columbia, has racked up seven hits since her debut almost six years ago in February 2001. The first was the #2 I’m Like A Bird, followed mid-year with her first chart-topper Turn Off The Lights. Last July Nelly’s third album Loose dropped straight in at #1, yielding a pole position lead single in Promiscuous. And now that set’s third single puts her back on top.
Loose meanwhile holds at #24 on the Albums list this week.

Razor Sharp
Their latest single, America, has boosted the profile of London-based Johnny Borrell (vocals and guitar), Björn Ågren (guitar), Carl Dalemo (bass) and Andy Burrows (drums), collectively known as Razorlight.
The Brits loved the quartet from the outset, giving them a #1 album with their debut Up All Night in June 2004. In fact, they’ve sold over a million units in their short career. However, it’s been their self-titled sophomore release Razorlight that has got them noticed here, becoming their New Zealand chart debut this week at #33, spurred on by the success of America.
It’s double celebration time as that track cracks the Singles Chart Top 10 at #10, up 8 places this week, with airplay on the rise as well (currently #14 on the RadioScope100).

Bushman Makes It In
Wellingtonian Warren Maxwell has twice before led a band into the New Zealand Albums Top 40 – his former group TrinityRoots’ debut set True made it to #28 in June 2002, while their second and final set rose to #6 in mid 2004.
Leaving that band behind and moving in a more rock ‘n’ roll vein, Warren now leads his new outfit into the chart, new at #40 this week after a stint bubbling under the surface on the Heatseekers Chart.
The seven-track set The Onus Of Sand was produced at the capital’s Level 2 Studios and mastered in the capital at Trident Studios. Joining Maxwell are double bassist/violinist Tom Callwood, guitarist Joe Callwood and drummer Rick Cranson.
