Westpac Presents
RIPPED

A Unique Rock and Indie Event Showcasing Some of Auckland's Hottest Bands,
Plus the Best of Youth Culture, Fashion, Art and Dance

RIPPED is the winning event of the $20,000 Westpac Young Producers competition – and it will be unlike anything else held during the Auckland Festival, AK07.

Created by the Westpac Young Producers, RIPPED consists of a mixed Rock and Indie programme and features bands from Auckland’s diverse youth music culture. The final line up of bands is: Rockers “Falter”, “Cobra Khan”, and “The Have” alongside Indie Favourites “The Electric Confectionaires”, “The Sneaks”, Devonport’s “White Birds and Lemons”.

Westpac Young Producer Sharina Parsottam (18) says “We’re really happy with the line-up of bands so far. At this time of year lots of New Zealand bands are playing overseas so the fact we’ve got these great bands and they fit so well with RIPPED, is great.”

RIPPED will take place in Red Square @ Britomart- the Auckland Festival, AK07 Festival Hub. Presented by Westpac, Red Square will transform Britomart into a buzzing centre for artists and audience brimming with bars, a Festival Club and the Famous Spiegeltent.

The Festival Club will be set up as a Rock venue filled with band merchandise, and other rock apparel as well as the Festival’s first ever Air Band Competition. The Famous Spiegeltent will be transformed into an Indie space, set up with a Craftwerk markets and a stage where acoustic singer/songwriters will play.

“We really wanted to make the event different to all the other gigs that happen around the city. By creating the unique spaces we’re hoping to showcase each genre more in depth than just through the music,” says Westpac Young Producer Dave Parker (18).

For the competition applicants had to submit an event idea with a budget to the tune of $20,000. The group with the best idea and budget received a $20,000 Westpac Student Pac Account, and free hire of Red Square which is also sponsored by Westpac. From the Auckland Festival, AK07 they received access to Festival offices and mentorship from industry experts in the fields of production, stage management, marketing, publicity, artist liaison and administration.

The Auckland Festival will take place from March 9 – 25 and feature more than 60 events. RIPPED, by the Westpac Young Producers will take over Red Square @ Britomart from
2pm – 7pm on St Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March 17.
