TVNZ To Release DVD Coverage Of Maori Queen's Tangi
A DVD to commemorate the life of the Maori Queen, Dame Te Atairangikaahu, will be released by TVNZ at the end of this month.
The DVD, 'The Maori Queen: 1931 - 2006', contains two and a half hours of significant moments from the tangi and an hour long documentary celebrating 40 years of Dame Te Atairangikaahu's leadership of the Maori King Movement.
Before its general release, copies of the DVD will be presented to King Tuheita tomorrow at an annual Poukai to be held at Hukanui Marae, and will be presented in kete whaikairo, specially woven for the occasion. The DVD will also be available to the rest of Tainui through the Waikato Raupatu Lands Trust at all the upcoming Poukai.
TVNZ's CEO, Rick Ellis, says he is very proud of the role TVNZ played in being the host broadcaster of such a significant event in New Zealand's history.
"TVNZ broadcast five and a half hours of live coverage, which was watched by more than 430,000 people - a truly uniting moment for New Zealanders".
The coverage was shared free of charge with the Maori Television Service and TV3, and was also broadcast live on tvnz.co.nz.
The DVD will be on sale in DVD retail outlets from 22 February, at a recommended retail price of $29.99.
