Events Extravaganza At City Gallery Wellington
A non-stop events programme is one of the special features of Telecom Prospect 2007: New Art New Zealand. Over eleven art-filled weeks, City Gallery Wellington’s flagship exhibition presents a host of free events to engage, excite and inspire audiences.
Free events run throughout the exhibition. Events include artists’ talks, artist-led workshops, screenings of artist’s films and artist’s performances. A definite highlight will be the Late Night Sessions—a late night opening with performances by local bands and DJs—and ArtCraft, a market day celebrating all that is crafty. New Voices will showcase new, exciting music, writing and moving image work from Wellington’s leading creative tertiary institutions. There are dynamic panel discussions exploring the intersecting themes that shape the exhibition, and a stellar one-day symposium for emerging curators, writers, artists and arts administrators.
For those hungry to know more about the story of New Zealand art, and how we got to where we are now, City Gallery Wellington has partnered with Victoria University Continuing Education to offer NZART101 –a seminar series featuring leading art historians Tina Barton, Aaron Lister and William McAloon. STart follows on for those who want to buy art, but aren’t sure where to start. Start is a series of two lively panel discussions exploring how to begin building your own collection of contemporary New Zealand art. (For bookings and further details visit www.vuw-ceed.ac.nz or call 04 463 6556.)
Kids and their caregivers can enhance
their enjoyment of the exhibition at any time by picking up
a c
opy of the Kids Adventure Trail. And on Saturday 17
March we add our Prospect magic to the Capital E National
Arts Festival Create-It Carnival, a special family day in
Civic Square exploding with free activities for
kids.
www.telecomprospect2007.org.nz is your one-stop shop for event updates and more. Every week we will keep you posted with what’s coming up.
