Halliday back in the driver’s seat for Durban

Kiwi A1 Grand Prix star can’t wait to show off his helmet

Auckland, 19 February 2007 – Top Kiwi racing driver Matt Halliday has confirmed he will be lining up for the South African leg of the A1 Grand Prix this weekend – with a new ‘go-faster’ helmet.

A1 Team.NZL has performed extraordinarily well this season and is currently sitting in second place, with four races to go.

Matt says he is excited to get back behind the A1GP wheel and continuing his 2007 success. At the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport meeting at the Taupo Motorsport Park in January, he achieved a clean sweep in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Series, with three superb wins at the Taupo track.

“It’s been a fantastic 2007 so far,” he says. “I have really high hopes for Durban and for the series. For New Zealand to be in second place is awesome – after all, we’re racing against some of the very best drivers in the world. It’s a phenomenal achievement.”

These days, Matt’s always followed by a hot chick brandishing a bottle…

The new helmet was designed by Halliday and features logos of each of Matt’s personal sponsors, including 42 BELOW and 420 Volcanic Spring Water. Each hi-tech racing helmet costs approximately $6,000 once it has been painted and kitted out with radio equipment. Matt estimates he will go through three or four in a season.

Matt says the silver and black colours were chosen to communicate his association with 42 BELOW.

“It’s great to be working with a company with such a cool vision, and it’s so exciting to represent their brand around the world,” he says. “The support from 42 BELOW has been amazing, so I wanted to reflect this by displaying the brand prominently on my racing helmet.”
