Day #1 of NZ Music Month 2007!

It is Tuesday 1st of May - Day #1 of NZ Music Month 2007!

Today NZ Music Month kicks off with a bang and a free performance at the Dux de Lux in Christchurch. Everyone is invited to celebrate the official launch of the month, with the party starting at 6pm, with live performances by Fur Patrol, Dukes, Pine, Black Market Art, O.G. and the Sheep Technique DJ team.

Also kicking off the month’s celebrations is Dunedin’s very own public Music Month party. At midday the Octagon will come alive with 3 very special Dunedin acts, Leprosaurian, Anji Sami and Ashley Hinton, and Inside My Speech Bubble all performing at lunchtime today.

Once again the music month tees will be available for sale from Hallensteins stores up and down the country. As well as the signature black target tee, there are also some limited edition styles on sale – the black on black, kick drum target tee and a turntable design, and with winter approaching there are hoodies available – this time in both black and white.

Coming up this Friday the music photography exhibition Sounds Like a Blur opens at the Schooner Tavern, Auckland. Photographer Sean Aicken has taken photos of many kiwi bands over the past few years; now he is showcasing his work to the public, and selling the pictures with proceeds going to the bands’ chosen charity. Later in the month (May 21) the exhibition moves to San Francisco Bath House, Wellington.

SkyCity are hosting a bunch of great performers throughout May. There will be free performances by Debbie Harwood, Katchafire, Batucada Sound Machine, Ardijah, Hello Sailor, Spacifix and more.

The Auckland Art Gallery is also getting into the swing of things with free performances by Kiwi bands in the gallery auditorium every Saturday in May. This Saturday the 5th of May, pop along for a performance by Chanelle Davis who will be performing songs from her debut EP Better Than Alone.
