Busloads of Talent in Hot Demand this Festival

Media Release – For immediate release

Busloads of Talent in Hot Demand this Festival Season

There is no escaping the imminent arrival of the 7th biennial Christchurch Arts Festival as public buses across the city highlight Festival attractions.

Due to popular demand the Festival is delighted to announce an extra performance of the award winning NZ comedy Niu Sila on Thursday 26 July at 6pm. Selling out seasons in Auckland, Wellington and Wanaka, Niu Sila traces a friendship spanning over thirty years, two cultures and one neighbourhood.

Following the recent release of her Long Player Album which debuted at number one position in the NZ charts, Hollie Smith is in hot demand for her two festival shows – these are certain to sell out in advance of the late July season at the TelstraClear Club.

Headline international act – Danza Cuba has also received rave reviews at the start of their world tour for their highly anticipated new show. The Cuban company’s latest production, “Vida!”, played to packed houses and outstanding reviews at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. Writing in the Toronto Star, reviewer Susan Walker proclaimed “Not only does Vida! Feature one of the best chorus lines this side of Broadway, but it has a killer band and a singer who is a national treasure”.

The show also received an outstanding review from Paula Citron of the Boston Globe, stating that the show “…may be shamelessly politically correct in Cuban terms, but it has an earthly, emotional centre”. The Festival now looks forward to hosting the company for their Christchurch season of the sultry and passionate Fuerza y Compas, an event not to be missed!

With 6 weeks to go this years Christchurch Arts Festival is gearing up to be a double decker of artistic excitement.
