'Kissy Kissy' at NZ International Film Festival

Kissy Kissy, Elric Kane and Alexander Greenhough’s third independent digital feature, premieres at the New Zealand International Film Festival this July, with screenings in both Auckland and Wellington. The film follows the aftermath of a stalled movie project in Wellington after a mysterious disappearance. As the various members of the cast and crew resume their everyday lives, the intricacies of their relationships with one another become increasingly difficult, as their conflicting needs and desires become impossible to resolve.

The Festival Programme notes that “audiences will have no trouble relating to the strained relationships and sincere, unrequited longing at the heart of this engaging new feature from [the] talented local filmmaking duo,” and praises the film’s “insistence for telling the uncomfortable truth in winning vérité style,” while Helene Wong of The Listener agues that the film’s “natural performances” are “painfully recognisable,” with “the unobtrusive camerawork producing visuals that resonate with the characters’ emotions.”

Shot on location in both Wellington and the Marlborough Sounds, Kissy Kissy features a talented young cast, including Tania Nolan (The Hothouse), James Ashcroft (Yours Truly), Rob Jerram (Little Bits of Light), Jean Copland (Corner of 4am and Cuba), Daniel Northcott (Murmurs), Dick Whyte (I Think I’m Going), Brooke Williams (My Story), and Angela Green (Doubt). All (except Jerram and Whyte) are graduates of Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School.

Kissy Kissy screens at the Auckland Film Festival at SkyCity Cinema on Friday, 27 July, at 2.45pm and 6.00pm and at the Wellington Film Festival at the Paramount Theatre on Wednesday, 25 July, at 8.30pm and at The Film Archive on Monday, 30 July, at 3.00pm.
