Art Given the Bird
PRESS RELEASE
Orewa, 17th July 2007
Available for immediate publication.
A four metre high stainless
steel bird suspended from a seemingly impossible height
provides a dramatic and enticing feature of the new Estuary
Arts latest themed exhibition entitled Birds, Birds,
Birds.
The artist, Robert Onnes, is one of a variety of local exhibitors whose talents are expressed through a selection of diverse paintings, sculptures, photographs, digital art work and ceramics which capture a Bird theme.љ
This is the latest in a series of exhibitions created by the new Estuary Arts Centre in Orewa.
The community gallery, which opened on 1 March 2007, aims to provide exposure and support for established and emerging artists in the Rodney area, and is staffed entirely by a group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers.љљ
The Arts Centre has been well received and supported by the community and Cath O’Brien, Rodney District Council’s Arts Advisor, is quick to praise the valuable contribution made by the community volunteers.
“All the people who devote their time here are volunteers and they do an incredible job”, says Cath.љ “They source all the exhibitors, display the material, and provide artist biographies”.
Faye McCaskill who is a volunteer љexhibition curator says the biggest challenge is to find skilled people to help run the Centre.
“We would love to hear fromљ those who can volunteer skills and experience in retail and fundraising work, especially those retired or who run their own business”.
Volunteers are rostered on in three hour slots from Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5pm.
Those who would like their work featured in any upcoming exhibitions are encouraged to call and place a short profile of their work at the Centre for consideration.
The latest Birds exhibition is open until 26 July 2007.
