Weird World of Sport

Media Release – For Immediate Release

Irreverent comedy duo Bill and Ben from TV3’s Pulp Sport are on a crusade to raise New Zealand’s sporting chances with their latest venture, Weird World of Sports. Bill and Ben will be at the University of Auckland tomorrow to launch a nationwide competition to invent new sports.

The pair will umpire a mass game of Waterball from midday to 2pm in the university’s quad. Waterball is a sport combining the ‘sand in your crack of beach volleyball with the frailty of water balloons’. A soggy end is predicted.

“Weird World of Sports is a quest to find some new kiwi talent,” says Jamie Linehan aka Bill. “What better way to kick the rest of the world’s arse at sport than to invent your own? Let’s use our kiwi ingenuity to take the sporting world by storm!”

“Rugby and netball…boring,” says Ben. “We’re the land of number 8 wire and ugg boots goddamit! We can do better than that.”

To get the ball rolling, Bill and Ben have invented some new sports of their own: Crugby, combining our summer and winter codes, cricket and rugby; Figureboxing, a fusion of figure-skating and boxing; and Keyboarding, an extreme sport for computer nerds.
