The Edge of the Sun wins inaugural AOTEA AWARD
Renu O Te Ra: The Edge of the Sun wins inaugural AOTEA AWARD
The AOTEA AWARD for a Partnership with a Community Programme recognises THE EDGE® Public Programme’s contribution to the development of this production and is valued at $10,000 per annum.
The development and production of this new contemporary dance work through the support of THE EDGE®’s Public Programmes has been recognised with an inaugural AOTEA AWARD.
Established by the Aotea Centre Performing Arts Trust (ACPAT), the AOTEA AWARDS celebrate excellence and leadership in performing arts.
The presentation of this first AOTEA AWARD is a special event at the Auckland Town Hall, THE EDGE® prior to the opening night performance of Renu o Te Ra: The Edge of the Sun.
“Public Programmes builds long-term relationships with youth-focussed companies which nurture and develop both performers and innovative performing arts companies,” said Diana Fenwick, QSO, Chair of the Aotea Centre Performing Arts Trust. “Developing and mentoring the next generation in performance are integral to the work. This developmental approach is a unique feature of Public Programmes which is gaining international recognition.”
“The ACPAT Trustees have this year established new awards which will enable future growth for the Trust through partnership with existing organisations which show excellence in development and outcomes, alongside the promotion of the very best individual talent,” she added.
Two further awards for 2007 will be presented later in the year - the Aotea Supreme Award for an individual and an Aotea Project Award for an established performing arts organisation.
