'Three minutes silence' against child abuse
'Three minutes silence' at Nelson Cathedral against child abuse
Nelson Cathedral has joined the call for people to stop what they are doing and stay silent for three minutes tomorrow (Wednesday) in a nationwide stand against child abuse.
Community groups that instigated the call say the three minutes represent each of the three years of the latest victim's life.
Priest Assistant at the cathedral, Yvonne McLean said people were invited to come to the Cathedral for a silent vigil from 12 noon, with the three minutes silence to be observed from 12.12pm.
"People may want to light a candle at our votive candle stand and we will close with a prayer at 12.30," the Reverend McLean said. "The protection of children is something the whole community needs to take responsibility for and the cathedral is at the heart of this community."
