New NZ Championship title award

Attention sports editor - for immediate release 23rd August 2007

Media advisory: Round five of the Vantage Aluminium Joinery 2007 New Zealand Rally Championship, on behalf of The Motorsport Company

New NZ Championship title award

With the increased level of category and competition at championship level, New Zealand’s Rally Championship award list has been consolidated.

Presented at the MotorSport NZ Annual Awards dinner the overall Goldstar trophy incorporates drivers in both Group N 2WD and 4WD categories. Along with the Rose Bowl co-driver champion trophy there will be a driver and co-driver champion for the Group N 4WD and 2WD classes.

Current series leader is 20-year old Hayden Paddon (Lancer EVO 8), with defending champion Richard Mason (Subaru Impreza) third, 18 points behind.

The penultimate round of the 2007 will be held at next weekend’s Rally New Zealand (31 August – 1 September). While only the first two days of the three day event count toward the New Zealand championship title there is the ‘First Kiwi home’ title. The Kiwi-2 championship class will only contest the one-day Saturday leg – a category of the Smartwood by Alpwood Possum Bourne Memorial Rally ’07.
