Now in their fourth decade of music making, America have been perennials on the concert circuit for 35 years, pleasing loyal fans and attracting new generations of followers in New Zealand and all over the world. The band's new 2-CD set, Here & Now is a spectacular distillation of the group's signature sound - past and present -comprising one studio record of all new material and a second live disc taped at XM Radio featuring renditions of songs found on the group's multi-platinum greatest hits album, History.

On the New Zealand leg of the tour, America with original members Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell will perform new music as well as all of their best-known hits such as I Need You, Ventura Highway, Horse with No Name, Don't Cross The River, Tin Man, Lonely People, and Sister Golden Hair.

Brief History

The members of America met on a US Air force base in England, where their parents were stationed. They first formed the trio in 1971. Playing acoustic music they decided to name the band after their homeland, America. The sound of America is often compared to Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

They landed a contract with Warner Bros. records in the UK, and released their first single Horse With No Name which hit #3 in the UK charts. Due to the success of the single, Warner decided to release it in the US where it quickly claimed the top spot on the charts. Horse With No Name was followed up with two consecutive top 10 hits in the US. I Need You and Ventura Highway.

1972 seemed to be their year, they never again reached the success of their debut. They did however have a number 1 hit with Sister Golden Hair in 1975. Five years after their debut Dan Peek left the band to pursue a solo career. America hit the U.S. top 10 once again in 1982 with the single You Can Do Magic.

The legendary producer of the Beatles, George Martin, produced all AMERICA's albums from 1974 to 1979. They also won a Grammy Award in 1972 for Best New Artist. Their latest album, HERE & NOW, is a double CD – one contains new songs, and the other a ‘live’ performance.
