Rotorua September 1-3

The great traditions of inter-school 1st XV rugby, stretching back over 130 years to the original match between Nelson College and Wellington College, will gain another mark of distinction when the top four 1st XV's compete in their annual tournament in Rotorua this weekend with semi-finals on Saturday 1st September and finals on Monday 3rd September.

This highly popular tournament is backed by worldwide hotel chain Novotel and the 70-year-old New Zealand Barbarian Rugby Club, marking the Barbarians 70th birthday. Both Novotel Hotels & Resorts and the New Zealand Barbarian Rugby Club are enjoying the second year of sponsoring New Zealand Schools Rugby displaying a commitment to the development of the game and to our young players.

This year Nelson College and Mt Albert Grammar School (Auckland) rejoin the four finalists. Gisborne High School, a semifinalist last year, is again competing and the fourth team will be the winner of Wednesday's (August 29) match between Wesley College and Hamilton Boys.

All matches will be played at the Whakarewarewa Club's ground in Rotorua on Te Ngai Road.
September 1 First-round matches 1.30 and 3 pm
September 3 Third-Fourth play-off 12.00 pm
Final 1.30 pm
