Bookfair Biggest Yet!
Bookfair Biggest Yet!
The important work of Downtown Community Ministry got a great boost at the weekend after thousands of Wellingtonians arrived to support the annual Bookfair fundraiser.
Organiser David Cross says, “We had a feeling we were in for a big one. We collected a huge number of books and CDs and had tons of enquiries about when and where the fair was”.
The weather was kind too with a beautiful spring weekend bringing huge numbers of people that helped set a new record sales total for the two days of the fair.
Mr Cross paid tribute to the 70 volunteers who helped during the Friday setup day and over the actual weekend of the fair.
“We had an amazing group of volunteers working very hard to make it a great time. They should be very proud.”
Next Sunday (the 16th), DCM supporters are invited to attend an ecumenical service of thanksgiving for the work of DCM at Wesley Church, 75 Taranaki Street, at 2pm. DCM Director Stephanie McIntyre will speak on the work of DCM and the latest with the Wet House proposal. An afternoon tea will follow.
Those attending are asked to bring along a non-perishable item for the foodbank such as tinned fish or canned vegetables.
