Bus Drivers To Battle It Out At Roadeo
MEDIA ADVISORY
Bus Drivers To Battle It Ouyt At
Roadeo
26 September 2007
Bus and coach companies are pitting their best and friendliest drivers against the country's top bus operators – and a few from across the Tasman – this weekend.
Wigram Air Base in Christchurch will be the scene of New Zealand's first ever Tranzqual ITO Australasian Bus Roadeo, where the search is on to find Australasia's best bus driver. Sixteen Kiwi drivers will undergo gruelling driving and knowledge tests, pitting their skills against each other plus three drivers flown in from Australia.
The drivers have been chosen to represent their companies because of their low complaint and accident rates, great customer service and professionalism.
May the best driver win!
Roadeos are hugely popular in the United States, and give bus and coach operators a fantastic opportunity to test their driving skills against each other in a fun, but serious, atmosphere that celebrates excellence in bus driving.
Australia held its first Bus Roadeo back in 1991, and last year a team from Red Bus in Christchurch became the first New Zealanders to compete against the best of Australia. They had such a great time that the New Zealand Bus and Coach Association decided to hold the event here and find our own top driver.
The Tranzqual ITO Australasian Bus Roadeo will be held:
WHEN: This Sunday, September 30, 9am onwards
WHERE: Air Force Museum, Wigram Air Base in Christchurch, 45 Harvard Avenue, Sockburn, off Main South Road.
It will officially opened by the Hon Annette King, the Minister of Transport.
It is not open to the public but media are very welcome to attend the event and can even test their own bus driving skills.
