Vodafone and C4 announce winner of ‘Voice of the People’

After going up against a whole heap of hopefuls, Vodafone and C4 can confirm their “Voice of the People”. Steph McQuaid takes the prize after dazzling viewers with her charms.

Steph will present the Vodafone’s People’s Choice Award with C4’s Jermaine Leef at the VNZMAs this Thursday night. "I think it's great for a member of the public to be able to present this award at New Zealand’s biggest music night, it makes it truly the People’s Choice Award!” says Jermaine.

C4 viewers were able to put forward their case to be the lucky winner by visiting c4tv.co.nz and expressing what NZ music means to them.

The 16 year old Kiwi from Auckland’s North Shore had this to say in her winning entry:

“We are a talented bunch of Kiwis and our music industry is becoming a huge part of us and gaining the recognition we deserve. We are now no longer only known for our nerdville “Lord of the Rings” and whooping ass at rugby, but our talent also lies in the music industry……When I heard about the competition I though it was an awesome idea to be able to reward these guys for their brilliance, and who better to present them with their award than me. I can talk the talk and walk the walk. I guess you could say I have the whole package!”

The C4 producers clearly thought so, and along with three other finalists, Steph featured on Vodafone Select Live where they all competed to get the public vote.

There was an astounding response from viewers with almost 4,000 people voting via TXT, nearly 50% of which were for Steph. Courtesy of Vodafone, she now gets to spend a night in the limelight, mingling with the stars, getting the VIP treatment, and of course presenting the most prestigious award of the night: The Vodafone People’s Choice Award!

On Thursday, Steph’s Rock n’ Roll experience becomes a reality when she checks into her luxury suite at Auckland’s Langham Hotel, before being taken to local designer Lucy Boshier’s boutique to be dressed for the evening. She can then look forward to a MAC make-over, limo to and from the event, her very own private dressing room at the awards, VIP passes to the main show and after-party and $1000 of Vodafone air-time.

You can catch Steph in action at the awards by tuning into C4 from 8.30pm on Thursday.

Gushes Steph, “It’s amazing! I am thrilled. Thank you to everyone who voted for me.”
